  • October 3 & 4 Audits - Application of CAS 315 Revised Standard
    Revised CAS 315, Identifying and Assessing the Risks of Material Misstatement, is effective for audits of financial statements for periods beginning on or after December 15, 2021, many of which would be December 2022 year-ends. CAS 315, has been significantly revised, reorganized, and enhanced to respond to challenges and issues faced by practitioners. This course will cover new concepts and definitions, enhancements and clarifications to help you, the auditor, apply the audit risk model in planning your audit engagements.
  • October 5 & 6 - Introduction to Budgeting for Professional Accountants
    This introductory-level course is designed for participants who have some familiarity with accounting and/or finance concepts and are able to apply them in a work setting.  Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of budgeting, the different types of budgets, and the various steps involved in the budgeting and monitoring process.  
  • October 12 - Survival Skills for a New Era of Ethics and ESG
    Stakeholders - from employees to customers to investors - have diverse perspectives on what and how much organizations ought to do to address the social and environmental challenges of today. This innovative course explores our current ethical and ESG landscape. It suggests a shift into an era defined by moral complexities and the triad of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns. Established approaches to business ethics, corporate reputation, and ESG seem inadequate in this new milieu.
  • October 13 - Five Vital Skills for Promotion for Emerging Female Leaders
    The session is designed for emerging female leaders who want to understand how to accelerate their promotability. The session is built around assessing and learning the 5 Promotability Competencies. This customized virtual learning experience will support emerging female leaders to increase their promotability literacy and explore actions that will help them accelerate their career advancement.
  • October 17 - Professional and Applied Ethics for Canadian CPAs
    The course will explore some of the key moral questions in professional accounting and applied business ethics at an introductory level, including: What does it mean to be a “professional accountant”; What are the ethical issues involved in “whistleblowing”; How do we make ethical decisions and how does corporate culture influence our decisions; What are some of the ethical issues involved with corporate social responsibility and environment, social and governance (ESG) reporting? Also offered Feb 20, 2024.
  • October 23 - Quality Management – Workshop for Non-assurance Providers
    This course will assist firms that practice exclusively in the non-assurance area to understand, apply, and document its System of Quality Management (“SOQM”) in accordance with the new standard CSQM 1.  The participants will identify quality objectives, risks, and responses for a few of the quality objective components during the workshop, by completing various workshop-developed forms that have been, in some instances, adapted from the Quality Management Guide (QMG).  The course will also demonstrate the application and documentation of the monitoring and remediation process. Also offered November 10, 2023.
  • October 24 & 31 - ASPE – Revenue Recognition
    This course addresses challenges faced by preparers of ASPE financial statements and practitioners with respect to the recognition, measurement, presentation and disclosure of revenue transactions under ASPE.
  • October 26 - Anti-Racism 101: Interrupt Racism, Unconscious Bias & Beyond
    Over the past few years, racism has been front and centre in the news. Many people are expressing shock and outrage regarding incidents of racism and hate right here in Canada. People are grappling with terms such as privilege, unconscious bias, micro-aggressions, and systemic racism, wondering where to safely ask their questions and what to say and do. At the same time, we know that people who experience racism can be traumatized by the inaction of bystanders as most people freeze up when they witness incidents of racism, largely due to a lack of skills
  • October 31 - Being Strategic
    Much research has been done into answering the question: “What makes a good leader?” It turns out that while a number of competencies are needed to successfully lead, the ability to think, plan and orientate oneself strategically emerges as the attribute most highly correlated with leadership effectiveness. This course teaches participants a methodology that begins with diagnosis, analysis and visioning, culminating in the development of actionable plans.
