CPD FAQs

These FAQs provide general information only about the CPA Manitoba’s CPD requirements.  They are not intended to address every possible circumstance.

The FAQs do not and cannot change the meaning of the CPA Manitoba Bylaws, Regulations and Code of Professional Conduct.  In the case of any inconsistency between the FAQs and the governing documents mentioned above, the governing documents will prevail and govern.

General

  • What learning activities qualify for Continuing Professional Development hours?

  • What does not qualify for Continuing Professional Development hours?

  • Am I required to take any mandatory courses?

  • What activities qualify under volunteer or pro-bono work, such as sitting on a board of directors?

Reporting

  • What is the reporting period for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours?

  • What is the deadline for reporting for CPD hours?

  • What are the minimum reporting requirements for CPD hours that I must report?

  • What is a 3-year rolling cycle?

  • If I missed reporting hours for last year, can I report after the deadline?

  • I attended a course at CPA Manitoba. Are these hours reported automatically for me?

Verifiable

  • What types of learning activities qualify for Verifiable CPD hours?

  • How do I know whether a course offered by a third party will qualify for verifiable CPD credit?

  • What type of support do I need for verifiable CPD?

  • How long do I need to keep my CPD records?

  • I attended a CPA Conference. Would this time qualify as verifiable CPD?

  • I am a part-time instructor. Would this time qualify as verifiable CPD?

  • I am a mentor. Would mentorship time qualify as verifiable CPD?

Unverifiable

  • What types of learning activities qualify for Unverifiable CPD hours?

  • What qualifies as technical reading and self-study?

Exemptions

  • If I am going on maternity or parental leave, do I still have to report CPD?

  • If I am on leave for medical reasons or special circumstances, do I still have to report CPD?

  • If I am retired or exempt from paying member dues, do I still have to report CPD?

Ethics

  • Do I have Ethics requirements?

  • Do I need to take a specific CPA PD Ethics course, or can I fulfill this requirement through other sources?

  • Why does CPA have a mandatory professional ethics requirement?

  • Can ethics be taught?

  • Why teach ethics?
