Ethical Dilemmas: Getting to a Resolution

The pace of scientific and technological change over the past twenty-five years has fundamentally altered the way we interact in organizations and in our communities. Consequently, our expectations of how organizations should behave are no longer based purely on shareholder value or service but include an array of social, environmental, and governance issues. Ethical dilemmas emerge from these issues as complex decision-making processes between two or more possible options, none of which is absolutely acceptable from an ethical or moral perspective. They are often viewed as highly complex, no-win situations. This course provides a series of tools and techniques to move towards resolutions of ethical dilemmas.

Many leaders and managers avoid talking about or addressing ethical dilemmas – sometimes referred to as an ethical paradox or moral dilemmas. Though we confront many ethical and moral issues in our lives, most of them come with relatively straightforward solutions. Ethical dilemmas are often not straightforward. In order to resolve dilemmas, it is necessary to both understand the issues at hand and have a rigorous analytical and critical thinking framework with which to examine these from an ethical perspective. This half-day course aims to equip you with the skills to do both.

Applicable for:
Leaders and managers who lead small and large organizations in government, non-profit, charitable, and small businesses, managers of business units, project teams, work groups, and professional practices.
