Professional Development Requirements

Did you know that CPA Manitoba protects the public interest by promoting and increasing competence of members by providing a comprehensive program of learning opportunities?  Members are required to uphold professional competencies by keeping informed of and complying with developments in professional standards in all functions in which they provide professional services or are relied on upon because of being a CPA.

Now is a good time to review your professional development completed this year in comparison to the requirements as the reporting period is closing on December 31, 2021. The continuing professional development (CPD) reporting deadline is April 1, 2022.

CPD can be reported at any time through the member profile login page. You can also review your previously reported CPD hours to determine if additional CPD learning activities are required to fulfill the minimum CPD requirements by December 31, 2021. To prevent underreporting of CPD, members are encouraged to report any CPD learning activities as completed instead of all at once at the end of the year and to plan CPD activities for the remainder of the current year accordingly.

As a reminder, CPD is reported on a calendar year basis and the requirements are:

  • Annually, each member shall complete a minimum of 20 hours of CPD, including a minimum of 10 hours of verifiable learning activities.
  • For the three-year rolling cycle ending December 31, 2021, each member shall complete a minimum of 120 hours of CPD including a minimum of 60 verifiable learning hours; of which members are required to complete a minimum of four hours in professional ethics during the first three-year rolling cycle ending December 31, 2021.
  • This three-year cycle covers the period January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021.
