Supporting the Next Generation of CPAs - Westman Outreach Recap

 
During the week of March 16, the CPA Manitoba recruitment team travelled to Brandon to support and engage with future CPAs across the Westman region. Building on the community‑focused style of past regional activities, the team connected with students, members, and faculty through a series of successful outreach events.
 
Brandon Regional Career Symposium
The week began at the annual Brandon Regional Career Symposium, where the team spoke with a large number of grade 8 to 12 students who were interested in exploring career options. While winter weather impacted bus travel on the first day and reduced expected attendance, those who were able to be there were enthusiastic, curious, and eager to learn more about careers in accounting and business. The team provided guidance on program pathways, career possibilities, and the value of earning the CPA designation.
 
Student Member Mixer – Building Community in Westman
A highlight of the week was a Student Member Mixer, inspired by the success of previous CPA Manitoba regional gatherings in Brandon. The event brought together 40 attendees, including CPA members, as well as students and faculty from Assiniboine Community College (ACC) and Brandon University. Held in a relaxed networking setting at the Dock on Princess, the mixer created meaningful opportunities for students to learn more about the evolving accounting landscape, gain insights into the CPA profession and strengthen ties within the local CPA community.
 
Assiniboine Community College (ACC) Career Fair
The team also participated in the ACC Career Fair, engaging with business diploma students exploring their next steps. Several students expressed interest in how their academic paths could align with pursuing the CPA designation, including moving on to Brandon University to complete a degree. 
 
Looking Ahead
The week in Brandon showcased the strong interest in the CPA profession among Westman students and reinforced the importance of ongoing in‑person engagement. We look forward to continuing to support and inspire the next generation of CPAs in Westman and across Manitoba.
