PD Requirement deadline is December 31.

Each calendar year, CPA members need to complete a minimum of 20 hours of CPD, including a minimum of 10 hours of verifiable learning activities.  A minimum of 120 hours of CPD in each three-year period includes a minimum of 60 verifiable learning hours which includes a minimum of 4 verifiable hours in professional ethics.

Seminar Spotlight - December

  • December 1 & 2 - Fraud Happens - What to do when you suspect fraud: Organizations must respond in an appropriate way to allegations and suspicions about fraud and related inappropriate conduct. A “knee-jerk” reaction can lead to many negative consequences; consequently, a rational reaction plan is critical. This seminar will provide best practices for conducting an organized financial investigation.

  • December 6 - ASNFPO - Disclosure and Presentation: This seminar will provide a broad review of financial statement presentation and note disclosure requirements under Part III- Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNFPO) and relevant disclosures from Part II - Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE). Participants will review a number of examples of disclosures and engage in activities to identify issues and improve disclosures.

  • December 8 & 9 - Practical Tips for NFP Financial Leaders: This seminar provides useful tips for accountants who work for Not-For-Profit organizations. The tips are illustrated through concrete examples derived from practical experience.

  • December 8 & 9 - Audit Engagements - Audit of a Simple Entity: This course provides practical guidance on how to perform effective and efficient small-to-medium-sized audit engagements, including those for not-for-profit entities. Using the audit methodology contained in Volume 2 of the Professional Engagement Guide (PEG), the course addresses the key areas of planning and performing audit engagements to meet the requirements of the Canadian Audit Standards.

  • December 12 & 14 - Moving Upwards with Risk Management: In dealing with our increasingly complex and fast-moving world, Risk Management is truly becoming a key discipline to master. Today’s successful organizations are the ones that are best able to understand risk, manage risk, and leverage risk as part of their competitive advantage.

  • December 13 & 15 - Business Valuations Advanced: Building on the concepts taught in Business Valuations - Fundamentals, this seminar gives participants a more detailed insight into some of the more complex issues associated with business valuations.

  • December 13 & 14 - Building a Financial Model (of a Company): This hands-on course focuses on the skills required to design and create an interactive financial model of a company that adheres to the highest industry standards. The course material includes model design, logic, construction, financial concepts and accounting treatment.

  • December 14 - Stress Management:  Unresolved stress can negatively impact employee and team motivation, morale and performance. This workshop focuses intensively on skills practice to ensure participants build a higher level of resilience in dealing with stress.

  • December 15 & 16 - Performance Under Pressure:  Not a stress management program, Performance Under Pressure will show you how to increase stress-resilience to deal with the inevitable pressures at work more effectively. It will give you the tools to survive and thrive in tough situations.

  • December 16 & 19 - Audit Engagements - Application of CAS 315 Revised Standard: Revised CAS 315, Identifying and Assessing the Risks of Material Misstatement, is effective for audits of financial statements for periods beginning on or after December 15, 2021, many which would be December 2022 year-ends.

  • December 19 & 20 - Implementation of Internal Controls in the SME Context: This is a hands-on seminar intended to give new, and experienced, financial leaders an opportunity to explore and discuss implementation of internal controls in the SME context, using the COSO Enterprise Risk Management Methodology.

  • December 20 - Quality Management - Overview of CSQM 1 and 2 for Providers of Compilation and Other Non-Assurance Services New Standards: This professional development course provides participants with an overview of the requirements of the newly issued Canadian Standard for Quality Management (CSQM1 and CSQM2) and its impact on the quality control processes for non-assurance practitioners.

  • December 21 - Reconciliation in the Workplace: Learn practical, tangible changes that you can make in your workplace to make it a safe space and inviting for Indigenous employees. We will cover recruitment techniques, tips for retention, and policy changes that could remove barriers to Indigenous employee success.

  • December 21 - Cross-Cultural Communication: Communicating Effectively with Diverse Clients and Colleagues: The landscape of our Province is changing. Our co-workers and our clients come from varying cultures. This workshop will help individuals identify and overcome. barriers created by the diversity of world languages and develop skills for effective cross-cultural communication.

  • 1 Hour - Preventing Unethical Behaviour in the Workplace: You will learn how to identify threats, red flags and danger signs that may be putting your organization at risk, as well as indicators of widespread ethical misconduct that warrants immediate attention

  • 2 Hours - Professional Ethics: CPAs and evolving privacy risks: What CPAs need to know about evolving privacy risks. This course will introduce key privacy considerations, including ethical responsibilities for practitioners to effectively manage the day-to-day privacy risks they face, including: a review of a CPA’s ethical responsibilities with respect to client data, data breach mitigation techniques, improving client and employee confidence, increased understanding of the emerging trends and requirements in the privacy space.

  • 2 Hours - Professional Ethics: An Introduction to ESG for CPAs: This engaging on-demand course will explore the origins, key definitions, concepts and importance of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) for CPAs.

  • 4 Hours - Principles of Ethical Leadership: The most pressing need in the world today is ethical leadership. Ethical leadership at all levels. Every one of us is a leader at some level. Some of us lead teams. Some of us lead organizations. Some of our positions directly impact the world at large. This course explores leadership in those very contexts

  • 4 HoursEthics and Technology: In this course, you will learn about ""technoethics"" and the implications this has on individuals and organizations. Explore many of the current and emerging issues associated with ethics and technology, such as copyrights, cybercrimes, privacy versus security and geo-tracking technologies.

PD Passes

We are pleased to keep our PD Pass prices the same as they have been for the past five years. PD Pass credits are valid until March 31, 2023.

The PD Pass provides a savings option for business professionals interested in taking multiple seminars at a discounted price. The non-transferable Personal PD Pass can be used to mix and match any combination of live-stream, in-person, conference and on-demand topics and comes in two sizes, 21 credits and 35 credits.

A Corporate PD Pass can be used to mix and match any combination of live-stream, in-person, conference and on-demand topics. All staff in your organization are eligible to use it.
