CPA Manitoba Board Attends Blanket Ceremony

On May 19, board members attended a Blanket Ceremony at Red River College Polytech’s Manitou a bi Bii daziigae and learned about Indigenous history and culture. CPA Manitoba was the first group to use the new Roundhouse Auditorium since it's opening last month. The Roundhouse Auditorium features Indigenous artwork and is ventilated for smudging. CPA Manitoba is a proud sponsor of the building's new Collaboration Workroom which provides a space for students to connect and collaborate.

What is a Blanket Ceremony?
The Blanket Ceremony is focused on building an understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Participants are given active roles by stepping onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. Through fact-based and emotional learning, participants can gain empathy and understanding.

Later that day, CPA Manitoba sponsored a roundtable discussion with the Honourable Murray Sinclair and his son, Niigaan Sinclair hosted by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. The roundtable of business leaders held an engaging discussion about Truth and Reconciliation in our city.
