As part of the CPA certification program, future CPAs must complete a mandatory profession-approved period of qualifying, relevant and progressive practical experience. This practical experience requires appropriate supervision and mentoring. All members in good standing are eligible to become CPA Mentors. By sharing unique perspectives and providing advice, CPA Mentors support future CPAs in developing the proficiency expected of a professional accountant, with a focus on developing the enabling competencies: self-management, communication, problem-solving and decision-making, professional and ethical behaviour, and teamwork and leadership.
Members who become CPA Mentors can give back and invest in the future of the profession, creating a legacy that has a lasting impact. CPA Mentors are trained and supported throughout the mentorship program, with a time commitment of less than 15 hours per year.
