Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer service benefits all members, sustaining and improving our self-governing organization, and helping us meet the profession's present and future needs.

Your assistance is needed in a variety of volunteer activities. Even if you have previously indicated a desire to participate, we ask that you submit a volunteer profile form annually.

  • CPA Manitoba Board

    CPA Manitoba’s mandate is to protect the public interest through rigorous education and certification programs and ensure its members uphold the highest professional and ethical standards. The Board’s role is to determine CPA Manitoba’s mission, set its objectives, strategic priorities and policies, and provide oversight of management to ensure that these are fulfilled. 

    The duties of a Board member are to:

    • Prepare thoroughly for Board and committee meetings and be sufficiently well-informed to make appropriate decisions for the good of the profession and the membership.
    • Act consistently in accordance with the values and ethics of the profession.
    • Exercise sound, practical judgment and care in the performance of his/her duties.
    • Apply specific skills, experience and expertise in the interest of CPA Manitoba’s affairs.
    • Attend all meetings of the Board and assigned committees, or, if absent from a meeting (or any part thereof) remain informed of what transpired.

    Board members must be nominated and elected to the board by the CPA membership. Each board member shall hold office for a term of two years.

  • CPA Manitoba Registration Committee (Legislated Committee)

    The Registration Committee considers matters related to admission to and continuing membership, including compliance with continuing professional development requirements, in accordance with the CPA Manitoba Bylaws. The committee also considers matters related to registration and compliance of public accounting and other regulated services firms. In addition, the committee considers certain matters related to students and candidates registered with the CPA Western School of Business.

    The committee’s volunteer membership is comprised of no less than five and no more than nine Board-appointed representatives. At least three members of the committee must be CPAs, one of which who is appointed as Chair.

    Each member may serve up to two, three-year terms, except for the Chair who may serve up to two, three-year terms as Chair and up to nine years in total.

  • CPA Manitoba Complaints Investigation Committee (Legislated Committee)

    The Complaints Investigation Committee is responsible for investigating complaints, attempting to resolve them informally and making decisions under the provisions of The CPA Act in regard to professional conduct of members, students, candidates and/or firms, which may include a referral to the Discipline Committee. 

    The committee’s volunteer membership is comprised of 12 Board-appointed representatives, including a Chair and Vice Chair who are selected from among the CPA members. At least four of the committee members must be public representatives.

    Members may serve up to two, three-year terms, except for the Chair who may serve for up to two, three-year terms as Chair and up to nine years in total. The committee may meet and make decisions in panels of as few as three, provided that public representative(s) make up at least one-third of the panel.

  • CPA Manitoba Discipline Committee (Legislated Committee)

    The Discipline Committee is responsible for holding hearings on matters referred to it by the Complaints Investigation Committee and making disciplinary decisions related to the findings, orders, costs and fines as per The CPA Act. 

    The committee’s volunteer membership is comprised of 12 Board-appointed representatives, including a Chair and Vice Chair who are selected from among the CPA members. At least four of the committee members must be public representatives. 

    Members may serve up to two, three-year terms, except for the Chair who may serve for up to two, three-year terms as Chair and up to nine years in total. The committee may meet and make decisions in panels of as few as three, provided that public representative(s) make up at least one-third of the panel.

  • CPA Manitoba Appeals Committee (Legislated Committee)

    The Appeals Committee is responsible to hear and decide appeals related to:

    • Registration not approved or approved subject to conditions;
    • Permit not issued or renewed or issued or renewed subject to conditions;
    • Certain decisions of the Complaints Investigation Committee; and
    • Other matters as determined by The CPA Act and Bylaws.


    The committee’s volunteer membership is comprised of nine Board-appointed representatives, including a Chair and Vice Chair who are selected from among the CPA members. At least three of the committee members must be public representatives. 

    Members may serve up to two, three-year terms, except for the Chair who may serve for up to two, three-year terms as Chair and up to nine years in total. The committee may meet and make decisions in panels of as few as three, provided that public representative(s) make up at least one-third of the panel.

  • CPA Manitoba Practice Inspection Committee (Legislated Committee)

    The Practice Inspection Committee assesses compliance with professional standards of all full- and part-time public accounting service firms, and takes appropriate follow-up or remedial action in instances of non-compliance. All full and part-time practices are inspected at least once every three years.

    The committee’s volunteer membership comprises of approximately nine Board-appointed CPAs, including a Chair, who are in public practice, many of whom are at the partner level (or equivalent) and have been CPAs in good standing for greater than 10 years. The committee aims to be representative of the membership geographically and by size of practice (i.e., including local, regional and national firms).

    Each member may serve up to two, three-year terms, except for the Chair who may serve up to two, three-year terms as Chair and up to nine years in total.  The committee meets three times per year.

  • CPA Manitoba Tax Committee

    The Tax Committee is involved in overseeing a number of different activities including:

    • Developing pre-budget submissions to the Manitoba Minister of Finance on behalf of CPA Manitoba in relation to the Manitoba provincial budget.   
    • Fostering the relationship between CPA Manitoba, the Manitoba Minister of Finance and senior Department of Finance officials in relation to provincial tax legislation and administration.  
    • Meeting with senior officials of Canada Revenue Agency.   
    • Providing input to the national Joint CPA/CBA Committee on Taxation in its development of technical submissions on the Income Tax Act.  
    • Conducting the annual Tax Preparation Assistance Program in conjunction with the Age and Opportunity Centre.
    • Communicating with members on tax matters when appropriate.  
    • Providing support for media communications with respect to Provincial and Federal budgets.

    The committee’s volunteer membership is comprised of seven CPAs, who work in public practice roles primarily focused on tax.

  • CPA Manitoba Member Recognition Program Committee

    The Member Recognition Program Committee assesses nominations for the FCPA designation, as well as the Lifetime Achievement, Early Achievement, Community Service and Meritorious Service awards in accordance with the nationally developed and provincially adopted process and criteria.

    The Committee also conducts a triennial review of the program and makes changes to the program as determined necessary. 

    The committee’s volunteer membership is comprised of six CPAs, of which, at least three must be FCPAs. One member will be appointed as Chair.

    Members may serve up to one, three-year term. The Chair will maintain their role for one, three-year term. The committee meets once per year.

  • CPA Manitoba Conference Committee

    The Conference Committee is responsible for organizing the annual conference. The activities include selecting speakers and topics, providing recommendations on event elements and serving as a session manager for the two-day event.

    The Committee’s volunteer membership is comprised of six CPAs that are representative of the diverse industries that Manitoba CPAs are employed in. One member will be appointed as Chair.

    Members may serve up to one, three-year term. The Committee meets approximately five times per year.



  • CPA Manitoba - Community Champions

    Would you like to be an CPA Manitoba ambassador in your region? Volunteers may be asked to engage other members in their region and support regional activities.

    After submitting the volunteer profile form, your name will be placed on CPA Manitoba’s member volunteer list.

  • CPA Manitoba – Recruitment Activities

    CPAs, candidates and students are asked to help with a variety of recruitment activities including, school presentations and networking events. Volunteers may also be asked to deliver keynote addresses, participate on panels or judge case competitions. After submitting the volunteer profile form, your name will be placed on CPA Manitoba’s member volunteer list and we may contact you with details on upcoming events for which you can volunteer.



  • CPA Canada – Financial Literacy Program

    Share your knowledge and expertise as a professional financial expert by becoming a financial literacy volunteer as part of CPA Canada’s financial literacy volunteer program.

    Volunteers work with CPA Manitoba to establish opportunities to deliver financial literacy presentations in their communities in a variety of forums such as schools, libraries, community centres and more.

    Volunteers are trained on the program and provided resources and documents to complement their presentations.

  • CPA Manitoba – Tax Preparation Assistance Program

    If you have a Public Accounting Services or Other Regulated Services practice registered with CPA Manitoba and have personal tax return knowledge and experience, join your fellow CPAs and give back to the community by preparing tax returns for people who need assistance. Together we can help thousands of individuals and families who truly need help receiving tax refunds and credits that are only available by filing an income tax return.

  • CPA Certification Program – CPA Mentors

    As part of the CPA certification program, future CPAs must complete a mandatory profession-approved period of qualifying, relevant and progressive practical experience. This practical experience requires appropriate supervision and mentoring. All members in good standing are eligible to become CPA Mentors. By sharing unique perspectives and providing advice, CPA Mentors support future CPAs in developing the proficiency expected of a professional accountant, with a focus on developing the enabling competencies: self-management, communication, problem-solving and decision-making, professional and ethical behaviour, and teamwork and leadership.

    Members who become CPA Mentors can give back and invest in the future of the profession, creating a legacy that has a lasting impact. CPA Mentors are trained and supported throughout the mentorship program, with a time commitment of less than 15 hours per year.
