CPA Registration

Designation use is a matter of public protection. The public expects those using the CPA designation in our province to be regulated in Manitoba.

The CPA designation affirms the knowledge, skills and capabilities of the professionals who hold it. CPAs who belong to another Provincial CPA Body are not permitted to use the CPA designation in Manitoba unless they are also members of CPA Manitoba. Similarly, individuals who hold foreign accounting designations are not permitted to display the foreign designations after their name in Manitoba unless they are also members of CPA Manitoba and do so in accordance with s. 38 of the CPA Act.

Registering as a Member 

The Registration Committee can admit applicants who show evidence of good moral character and competence, once they have applied according to the admission requirements as defined in the CPA Manitoba Bylaws and paid the required fees. The three main pathways to be eligible to register as a CPA in Manitoba are:

CPA Certification Program

Individuals who have successfully completed the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP), passed the Common Final Examination (CFE), and fulfilled the Practical Experience Requirements (PER) will be eligible to apply for registration with CPA Manitoba. CPA Manitoba will provide instructions on the registration application process after an individual has completed all entrance requirements (education, examination and experience) established by the CPA Manitoba Board of Directors. Provincial Affiliation

Individuals who currently hold a CPA designation with another Provincial CPA Body and wish to use the CPA designation in the province of Manitoba are required to register with CPA Manitoba.

1. Download and complete the attached Membership Transfer In Application Form.
Submit the completed form to the CPA Manitoba Ethics & Regulatory Affairs department. Applications may be submitted prior to receipt of the Provincial CPA Body confirmation by CPA Manitoba, however, will be considered incomplete until the confirmation is received.

2. Download and complete the Provincial Confirmation Form.
The confirmation form is to be sent to all Provincial CPA Bodies where you are currently registered. Please complete and sign section 1 of the form and forward it to your current Provincial CPA Body to complete section 2 and send it directly to CPA Manitoba's Ethics & Regulatory Affairs department

Internationally Designated

Individuals who are members of an international accounting body with an MRA or RMA agreement in effect may be eligible to apply for registration with CPA Manitoba. Visit the CPA Canada website for a list of international membership recognition agreements and eligibility requirements. The right to practice public accounting will require additional examination and/or experience requirements. These frequently asked questions (FAQs) are intended to provide general guidance for when registration as a member with a Provincial CPA Body* is required. These FAQs are not exhaustive.

*References herein to “Provincial CPA Body” and “Province” include the CPA bodies and provinces in each of the ten Canadian provinces and CPA Yukon, CPA Northwest Territories/Nunavut and CPA Bermuda.

In general, registration as a member with the Provincial CPA Body(ies) is required in every Province where you are using the CPA designation, and in most cases in your Province of residence.

Note that for purposes of the following FAQs, an Engagement Lead is a CPA in public practice who is responsible for the engagement. This could be a partner, partner equivalent or authorized individual.
