Keynote Topics

  • The Path Forward: How CPAs and the First Nations Financial Management Board (FNFMB) Can Support Each Other
Chad Bicklmeier, CPA, CMA, CAFM, MBA
Are you aware of the First Nations Fiscal Management Act that came into force on April 1, 2006? This Act provides First Nations with support and tools to strengthen their communities and build their economies. Chad Bicklmeier, CPA, CMA, CAFM, MBA, will explore the Act's origins and its significance now and into the future. Understanding the Act will provide CPAs with valuable knowledge and context for working with First Nations communities. As settlements and the need for trusts arise, CPAs can provide valuable guidance, capacity building and risk mitigation services.
  • By the Numbers: An Overview of Red River Métis History and the Contemporary Economic Impact of the Manitoba Métis Federation, National Government of the Red River Métis
Lorne Pelletier - Senior Economic Advisor, Manitoba Métis Federation
The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation, are Canada’s negotiating partner in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba. They have led economic, business, and trade activities in this part of the world for over two-and-a-half centuries and are experiencing a cultural and economic resurgence that, in many respects, is globally leading. The opportunities for governments, corporations, and others to build relations, reconcile and partner with the Red River Métis are substantial. This keynote will offer a glimpse into how CPAs can play a key role in leading on these opportunities.
